It is a fact that Agricultural tendencies are tilting towards mechanization which consist of the employment of high mechanized farming instruments aimed to facilitate cultivation and boost productivity as opposed to the crude method of farming which is time and energy consuming with very little  production. However, the usage of such tools can only be possible on large scale farming, a concept that has always been promoted by the Cameroon government. It is against this backdrop that Cameroon Cotton Development Company- SODECOTON and the Cameroon National Confederation for Cotton Producers synergize their resources and purchase some tractors and other farming machines to distribute to large scale cotton farmers to enable them carry out qualitative and quantitative production.

The ceremony to hand over the tractors was presided at by the Governor of the North Region Jean Abate Edi on June 2nd in Garoua. This was in the presence of some dignitaries amongst which was the Director General of SODECOTON and the board chair of the Cameroon National Confederation for Cotton Producers. Given the importance of the cotton sector in the Cameroon agricultural landscape and in a bid to boost the farmers output, the two state enterprises made it a duty to equip some of the farmers involve in the domain and who have made it their primordial revenue generating activity,  this is to encourage them and  ameliorate their productivity.

The seven producers were each donated a tractor, a planting machine and a cultivator to mechanically carry out farm work on their cotton estates. This donation of second generational equipment by the two institutions will go a long way to improve on the working conditions of the farmers, thereby increasing productivity in the sector in general. Speaking during the ceremony, the board chair of Cameroons Cotton Confederation stated that the beneficiaries will be train free of charge on how to manipulate the different machines in a training center found in the locality of Pitoa in the Nord Region.

Sources in SODECOTON which is Cameroons flag bearer of cotton business declared that the company targets a production of 260.000 tons of cotton for the 2017-2018 season as compared to the 240.200 tons produced during the previous season. To get this output SODECOTON is obliged to collaborate with a good number of cotton producers in the northern region.
