A factory for the manufactured of domestic gas cylinders from composite materials at Nkoloman in Mbankomo in the Mefou and Akono Division situated at the outskirts of Yaounde in the Center Region of Cameroon is under construction.
The minister of Mines Industries and Technological Development, Ernest Gbwaboubouwho was speaking at the sight on August 16, 2018 while laying the foundation stone of the new factory said the project is the first of its kind to be carried out in the African continent and it is a laudable initiative which falls within the industrialization plan of the Cameroon government.
The Nkolomanfactory for the fabrication of domestic gas cylinder will be constructed on a 2 hectare of land just a stone throw from the Yaounde-Douala highway and it will go operational by September 2020. During the ceremony to lay the foundation stone, the Mayor of Mbankomo Jean Bonaventure Atangana said the project will amongst others make his municipality an industrial zone on the outskirt of Yaounde as it will attract youths and business men thereby increasing the economic growth of his municipality. The chief Executive Officer of the firm, Gilbert OteleEssombaon his part, said the project that is financed by the government of Cameroon with an initial capital of ten billion francs CFA on a total investment of thirty five billion frscfa for the next five years will employ a German technology with robots working twenty three hours a day and six hundred workers employ in three shifts to produce 350. 000 domestic gas cylinders every year. Laying the foundation stone in the company of Center Governor Naseri Paul Bea and other administrative authorities, the Minister of Mines Industries and Technological Development Ernest Gbwaboubou saluted the initiative which is the first of its kind inAfrica.
The domestic gas cylinders to be produced from composite materials will be advantageous as they will be lighter, transparent, not vulnerable to fire incidents, safer to use and easy to transport as compared to the existing metal gas bottles. The homemade production will also go a long way to increase the number of gas cylinders which is currently insufficient and will further ameliorate household access to domestic gas. Indecent acts such as the phenomenon of syphoning of domestic gas will also be greatly reduced. Minister Gbwaboubouused the opportunity to call on other Cameroonian investors to equally come up with similar projects that respect national and international norms in other to accelerate the countries industrial development plan.
