President Paul Biya receives in audience Development partners

The Head of State, President Paul Biya Tuesday June 6 received in audience 2 potential investors in the fields of energy and digital economy. The head of Electricite de France (EDF), and the Vice President of the world’s telecommunications developer ,HUAWEI were in the Unity palace to propose help to Cameroon in developping the respective sectors.

EDF would help Cameroon develope its growing electricity sector, specifically the Nactigal power plant construction valued at 722 billion cfa frs . The chairman and CEO of the electricity corporation of France Jean Bernard Levy told reporters his corporation was hoping to invest in the developement of the Nachtigal dam run by the Nachtigal hydro electric project.

The dam which would generate some 420 megawatts of energy upon completion in 2021 is the biggest in Central Africa and the 4th largest in Sub sahara Africa. After his audience with the President , Jean Bernard Levy signed a letter of intent with the Minister of Water and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna for the construction of the transmission line of the Nachtigal hydro electric project.

The vice President of Huawei technologies, Li Dafeng discussed investment prospects in Cameroon’s digital economy. He presented the strength of the Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company to the Head of State and expressed desire to invest in Cameroon’s digital economy.

Li Dafeng also said his country was a reliable partner to Cameroon’s vision of making youths technologically sound and was offering scholarships to 10 Cameroonians in the domain of technology transfer.
