This was during a meeting in Bamenda to evaluate the security stakes on the ground ahead of the 2018-2019 academic year and the 7th October presidential elections.
The North West region for about two years now has seriously been hit by the crises that is presently rocking the region. That notwithstanding, the competent authorities of the region have left no stone unturned to make sure that the predicaments which was already initiating a very dangerous bent be contained even in suburbs that terrorist have wished to use as strongholds. Today, children can freely go to school in the town of Bamenda, certificates exams were written in a secured environment and results published in all serenity.
Conscious of the looming security threats, the President of the Republic deemed it mandatory to evaluate the situation on the ground ahead of the 2018 school resumption and the 7th October presidential elections. It is in this light that the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji met on August 19, 2018 in Bamenda, headquarters of the North West Region with administrative authorities of the region to access security in all the divisions and subdivisions of the region. Speaking during the meeting, Minister Paul Atanga Nji lauded the efforts of the state executives in containing insecurity and maintaining peace and order within the region. He reminded them of the upcoming challenging Presidential elections and invited them to accompany Elections Cameroon in all the nooks and crannies where polling stations will be found to make sure that security reigns and electorates go to cast their votes in all safety. Talking to the press after the in-camera meeting, Minister Atanga Nji did not minced his words when he mentioned that as for the terrorists who are propagating terror in the region, they will be track down and punished according to the laws in force in Cameroon, for the North West region is no hiding ground for such species of persons.
On his part, the Governor of the Region has been doing his best to make sure that the economy of the North West regains steam and for normalcy to return. This via sensitization meetings with economic operators and the residents of the region. He has time without number called on the Defence and Security Forces to continue to be professional in the exercise of their noble duty, that of protecting persons and their goods and the territorial integrity of the nation.
