Disarmament One of the Clauses to Be Implemented

Following his inaugural speech last November 6, 2018 for the appeal of peace in our country, the Head of State and commander in chief of the armed forces, His Excellency Paul Biya, has commenced the process of providing a platform for the return of peace in the Far North, North West and South West Regions of the country which have for some time now been subjected to unrests.

This was materialized on the 30th of November 2018 with the signing of the decree putting in place the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee of Ex-Boko Haram fighters and Armed Groups in the North-West and South-West Regions of the country.
We are all beggars for peace”. Those are the words of the Head of State and commander in chief of the armed forces, His Excellency Paul Biya while addressing participants during the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly that took place in New York September 22, 2017. It is in this quest for peace that President Paul Biya last November 30, 2018 signed a decree creating the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee of Ex-Boko Haram Combatants and Armed Groups in the North-West and South-West Regions of the country.
The creation of this committee comes as a fulfilment of the promise made by Paul Biya during his inaugural speech on the 6th of November 2018 in order to seek lasting solutions to the unrest prevailing in the country. Knowing that most of our brothers and sisters who are presently engaged in these acts of vandalism were either forced to or now has regrets and wish to answer favorably to the Head of States call for peace and ceasefire. In this vein, disarmament is the first step and mechanism for peace to dwell. This committee is therefore ready to receive and then proceed to the disarmament process of Ex-fighters of the Boko Haram sect and Armed Groups in the North-West and South-West Regions by first of all collecting, listing and storing weapons and ammunitions voluntarily handed over by the ex-fighters and the next step will be to take the appropriate measures to destroy the said weapons, ammunitions and explosives in conjunction with other relevant government services.
The National disarmament, demobilization and reintegration committee which is implanted in Yaounde under the authority of the Prime Minister and Head of Government has its regional centers in Bamenda, Buea and Mora and other centers may be set up, as and when necessary on the recommendation of the management board.
