Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri

The security committee to follow up the construction and rehabilitation work of the road no 1, the Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri stretch converged at the ministry of defense for the first assessment session on December 11, 2018.

Speaking during the first session of the security follow up committee on the works of the rehabilitation of national road no. 1, Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri, the minister delegate at the presidency in charge of defence, Beti Assomo Joseph who chairs the security committee said the project is important as the government of Cameroon and the world bank is within the framework of transmit and the facilitation of transport in the Region between Maroua and Kousseri.

Added to this, the minister delegate at the presidency in charge of defence recalled that this project was put in place by the president of the republic, Paul Biya who deployed on the field a security committee to secure the zone which is under repeated attacks by the Boko Haram sect. Beti Assomo Joseph didn’t go by without mentioning the fact that since 2013 the far north region has been witnessing security challenges caused by the insurgency of the Boko Haram sect. in the face of this, the construction and rehabilitation works of this 205 km stretch of road was interrupted and the contract terminated.

On his part, the director of the military engineering corps, Colonel Kamgain Jackson pointed out that the construction and rehabilitation of this road is program for 26 months. The director of the military engineering corps who is a member of the security committee reiterated that this major project worth 70 billion francs cfa which kicked off effectively in October 2018 contrary to what was programmed in June due to the rains that retarded the work.

The security committee has the responsibility to supervise and coordinate the security follow-up of the construction and rehabilitation works that is being constructed by the military engineering corps following a collaboration agreement signed between the ministry of defence and that of public works on May 5, 2018 with support from the World Bank.

It should be recalled that, the minister of public works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi accompanied by the minister of finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey alongside the minister delegate at the presidency in charge of defence, Beti Assomo Joseph on March 1, 2018 laid the foundation stone of the Mora-Dabanga –Kousseri stretch.

Present during the during the first session of the security follow-up committee were the minster of public works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, vice chairperson of the committee, the governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari who doubles as the chairperson of the sub-committee as well as the commander of the 4th joint military region, brigadier general Njonkep Federick.
