This was during a press conference held in Yaoundé on August 4, 2018 in the Ministry of Sports and Physical education
Cameroon has been kicked out as the host country for the 2019 African Cups of Nation, Tunisia is the next host of the AFCON 2019, The African Football Federation is just waiting the right time to make the news of Cameroon’s inability to host the 2019 African football jamboree, these are just some of the fake news that inundated the internet. Thank God they are just fake news for an inspection team of the Confederation of African Football is due in Cameroon in the days ahead. Speaking during a press conference to reveal Cameroons state of preparedness, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt denounce the rumors on the withdrawal of the organization of the 2019 AFCON from Cameroon. He used the occasion to announce officially that the AFCON inspection delegation will arrive Cameroon today. They will be made up of two blocks. The first block which is due to start inspection work from 6-14 August 2018 will focus on the inspection of sports facilities like playing stadia and training pitches that are to be used for the competition, hotels and airport facilities as well as infrastructures. While the second team whose share of the work is due to start on August 12, 2018 has the task to meet with the local organizing committee of the Cameroon 2019 AFCON, hold working sessions and raise up amendments according to the standards of the Confederation of Africa Football. The CAF inspection mission is on its third visit to Cameroon and will now have enough evidence to give Cameroon the total credit of hosting the upcoming AFCON. For as Minister Bidoung puts it ‘preparations is well advanced Cameroon is working day and night to ensure that eleven months to the kick off, all is in place’.
To portray the high esteem Cameroons places on the organization of this continental tournament, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang was recently in Bafoussam, Garoua, Douala and Yaoundé to visit all the stadia, hotels and hospitals that are meant to play host to participants of the game. At the end of his visit, he was satisfied with the level of advancement of work, though he prescribed that efforts should be doubled at all levels so as to reach a completion point of 100 percent before the D-day.
Reasons why Minister Bidoung Mkpatt firmly debunk the fake news of Cameroons incapacity to host the games disseminated by enemies of Cameroon.
