EIFORCES. Cameroon to Host Secretariat for African Peace Support Trainers Associations

The resolution was adopted during the 16th annual general assembly and the board meeting of the international school for security forces that took place on the 15th of October 2018 in Yaounde.

Presiding over the ceremony, the secretary of state for defence in charge of the national gendarmerie, representing the board chair of the international school for security forces, Beti Assomo Joseph, it was disclosed during the 16th annual general assembly and the board meeting that Cameroon is to host the Secretariat of the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) in Yaounde.
Speaking during the close of the deliberation which started on the 13th of October 2018, the secretary of state for defence in charge of the national gendarmerie, Galax Yves Landry Etoga said several meetings were held which was aimed at endowing African Peace Support Trainers Association with the appropriate organisational and structural means which will enable the institution become one of the main actors of the African peace and security architecture. The SED added that “Taking into consideration the numerous resolutions adopted, it turns out that APSTA is indeed more than ever worthy of support for the fulfilment of its mission. It is within this perspective that the President of the Republic, H.E Paul Biya, fervent peacemaker, is totally committed to support African Peace Support Trainers Association.
The institution to take charge of this Association will be the international school for security for security forces EIFORCES. This pool of excellence reputed for her training by the United Nations Organisation has as vocation in training and perfecting the units consisting of gendarmerie and police types in peace support operations; training and upgrading of civilian and military experts in peace support operations; perfect the commanders of the established police units (FPU) in peace support operations; and above all conduct research in the areas of peace support and security.
The African Peace Support Trainers Association was established in 2002 as the African Chapter of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC), in order to deepen the debate on peacekeeping training. It is a voluntary association with a membership of 18 African centers of excellence and training institutions, working in Africa in peacekeeping capacity building, and whose core activities and functions are the delivery of practical training and research. The objectives of APSTA are to: facilitate the exchange of information and best practices; harmonize the doctrine and training of the members for the APSA/ASF; serve as a depository that offers advisory services to the AU Commission on Peace Support Operations issues; and as a sounding board for the Commission on PSO concerning donor relations.
